Deborah Ellis Essay Deborah Ellis started writing at age 11-12 inspired at a young age she grasped her talent. As a kid she was constantly moving from place to place due to her father’s work, and used writing as a coping method. When she grew up, her work and writing was mainly done by traveling and talking to others that have problems and taking note of everything. She started to write the book I am currently the Breadwinner her first book. The Breadwinner takes place in Afghanistan and the main character at only 12 years old is faced with the discrimination against women when her father is arrested by the Taliban and with no other way of providing for her family she dresses up as a boy and tries to find work. Coincidentally Ellis traveled to Afghanistan in 1997 to interview women located in refugee camps. These interviews helped her write her four part series of The Breadwinner. Her writing of this book was inspired by an interview with a mother living in one of the refugee camps. Ellis has become considered of the most beloved young adult writers today as well as being a philanthropist who donates almost all of her profit’s from her books to organizations like â€Å"UNICEF† and â€Å"Women for Women in Afghanistan†. Deborah Ellis is a very motivated person who feels strongly for the rights of women and takes that inspiration and uses it to write compelling stories. Of all the books she has wrote which has come to 18 in total, all of them have been moving stories of injustices. Deborah Ellis has achieved international recognition with her incredibly dramatic books that give readers a glimpse into the life of children in far out developing countries. Ellis has won the Governor Generals Award, Swedens Peter Pan Prize, the Ruth Schwartz Award, the University of Californias Middle East Book Award, the Jane Addams Childrens Book Award and the Vicky Metcalf Award. Deborah Ellis constantly finds new ways to express her feelings about the wrongs in the world and inspires us all when she writes about it.

Ladies and gentleman good morning, today we will be debating about sex education. Sex education taught in the school system has long been debated as right or wrong. There are some who believe it is wholly wrong for the school to get involved in such a sensitive topic. They may believe this because they feel parents should do the talking or it may be down to religious reasons. First let’s define sex education so what is sex education. Sex education is instruction on issues relating to human sexuality, including human sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction, sexual activity, reproductive health, emotional relations, reproductive rights and responsibilities, abstinence, and birth control. Common avenues for sex education are parents or caregivers, formal school programs, and public health campaigns. The word sex, it is one of the few words that catch our attention. Whenever we see the word â€Å"sex† in magazines, newspapers and other print materials, we tend to stop at some point and become interested to read the article where it is written. It’s not because we simply feel the urge to read about sex but perhaps the â€Å"questioning self† wants to clarify and discover the truth about this matter. In liberal democracies, sex is viewed as a normal activity for both adults and teenagers. In the Philippines, it’s very different. Whenever we say the word â€Å"sex†, we are labeled as â€Å"rude†. No wonder why if we heard of â€Å"sex† we directly associate it to â€Å"vulgarity†. We cannot blame ourselves because we are living in a society with a stronghold of moral standards and conservatism. As a representative of the opposition we strongly oppose the implementation of sex education to grade-schoolers. Those grade school pupil who have pure mind and still immature we cannot afford to change the way of thinking of these innocent grade school pupil. It is still early for them to learn about sex education. Teaching sex education to grade-schooler at early age can greatly affect their way of thinking. A person who is 7-11 years old is still immature, they have a imaginative mind and curious to different things specially one that they still haven’t tried, so introducing them about sex education is very risky. There’s no guarantee that the person teaching it has a healthy attitude about sex, or that the teacher really knows anymore about sex that the students do. Sex education brings the information to the front, possibly giving kids ideas of things that they had never thought of before. Instead of just letting things goes by and take their natural course, kids begin thinking about it. They begin to wonder what it’s like and may make poor choices that they never would have if they hadn’t heard about it in the first place. There is also a possibility that they do what couples because of curiosity and immaturity. For teens and young adult are in the transitional stage or the experimental years wherein they are curious about many things and they are very impulsive to try something new, they always seek their selves from other, teaching them how to use contraceptives is a big no, once they learn about birth control and safe sex. The chances for having unplanned teen pregnancies are possible for they are not yet matured to handle such stuff. There’s a tendency that they might have multiple partners. Students may still also suffer from embarrassment or get excitable by the topic matter. Student curiosity will be set high and their urge to try it will be greater. This will cause them to engage in early sex, sex Education program is not the answer to any sex related problems of young teens and minors that have been undergoing at the moment. the schools responsibility is to teach reading, math, science, social studies, etc. Instead of teaching them sex education program, school should concentrate more in moral values, that sex is responsibility, that once done, you must ready to face the consequences and any challenges in life. That sex is sacred it’s not just for fun and pleasure but, it should only be done by couples for procreation. There is a right time for everything, so just like the sex education there is right time to learn about it. Sex education can be compared to a knife – it is useful to those who understand how to use it, but dangerous for those who do not. As parents, would you leave it to someone else to explain something potentially damaging to your children? If they will pursue with it, isn’t it awkward hearing kids say â€Å"Hey mama, can you review me with this condom, pills etc.

Question: Discuss about the Six Forms of Capital used by Businesses. Answer: The model of organization draws on various capital inputs and its shows how the operations of organization transform them into outputs. The major purpose of this reflective journal is to explain the various kinds of capital, without which the business cannot survive in the global environment. The journal includes my self-reflection on six forms of capital, which are needed by every business. Companies can create the value by combining the qualitative and quantitative information, which is from where the six types of capital come in. Generally, the capitals are defined as the stocks of value, which are influenced or converted by the outputs or activities of the organization. The journal classifies them as intellectual, manufactured, financial, human, natural, relationship and social. The concept of types of capital has different meanings. All are capitals, which have the capacity to generate the flow of desirable results. For a business, it is essential to maintain all the six kinds o f capital for sustainable economic development. Capitalism has not just been about the financial capital. It may be possible that the people are not aware about it. The businesses deal with different forms of capital. Without these kinds of capital, the businesses cant survive in the long run. Generally the people think that money is only the form of capital, but this is not right. Other than money, the organizations rely on the land, human resource, energy, water and community. My personal experience says that we have managed only financial part of the business (Roland Landua, 2011). We have accepted the measures on show to calculate profits, debts and assets. But generally, we talk very less about the kinds of capital except financial capital. The businesses do not know that other kinds of the capital may make or break them easily as financial capital can do. From an extensive research, I found that there are six forms of capital, which are essential for the business, such as; intellectual capital, manufactured capital, financial capital, human capital, natural capital, relationship and social capital. These capitals are given by McElroy (Gleadle, 2011). All forms of the capitals have their own importance in the business. The below diagram indicates that how the organizational model draws the flow of capital inputs and it shows how the processes convert them in outputs. When I looked at the financial capital, it was very familiar to me. It was included the available funds to the business, equity finance, money, securities, currencies and other financial instruments and debt also. If you want to become finance professional, then you can expand your knowledge about the implications of Basel III and other changes in the accounting policies (Cavinato, 2012). After studying the human capital, I understood that human capital was included in how the employer values the employees, but earlier I was not aware about its complications. It is a new concept, so it was very interesting to find out more. Analyzing human capital made me realize that a business can improve its operations by motivating and engaging the employees. Furthermore, intellectual capital can be defined as knowledge asset. I have discovered that the global education system is focused on communicating the intellectual capital, whether or not it is very important form for making successful and strong communities (Kohl, 2016). It is analyzed that intellectual capital is inspired by the need for social or financial capital. This further helped me in understand that intellectual capital can be included in the social and relationship capital. Social capital comprises of groups and teams, who work together and they share their intellectual capital for attaining a common goal. I learned that the people, who have good social capital, can take the favors, affect the decisions of the management and communicate proficiently. This knowledge makes me obvious that human capital is a mixture of intellectual and social capital. As we know, that production process cannot be started without the availability of fixed assets and raw materials. Manufacture d capital also has the similar importance like other forms of capital. It includes the tools, buildings and machines (Thiele, 2013). It seems integral to the success of organization. I came to know that it includes the distribution networks and products and how these goods are delivered to their customers. From the analysis, I understood that the all the capital sit in the natural capital, because it includes the natural sources like; ecosystem and climate changes. We can use the living capital term for the natural capital. I learned from the Jason Eaton of Social Thread LLC that the capital can be in the form of debt or equity. The social capital provides a person favors or power to influence the decision making to other person in the organization. I realized that the capitals are interconnected with each other. For example, what will a manufacturing company do, if its water supply stopped? What will happen to the stock price of a fashion retailer, if it will be accused of harming the children and animals? So, the organizations work with the concept of Multi-capitalism for sustainable development (Waldstorm Svendsen, 2008). I know that this is a weird term, but it includes the economic system in which the business run and technique of sustainable growth. This surprised me that our organizations are facing the problem of sustainability as we are using the stocks of human, social and natural faster than their production. I found that this problem can be resolved by controlling the rate of consumption. This can help in sustaining the capitals in the long run. I believe that by sustaining and trying to surge the stocks of these capitals, we can subsist the income without decreasing the capital. It is a responsibility of every business to manage all the capitals sustainably (Kline, 2015). I suggest the organizations that they should create a multi-capital scorecard as a measurement and report system. This scorecard can help the organization in assessing the performance in terms of effect on all the kinds of capital, not just financial capital.
