Ode on a Grecian Urn essays An ode is a relatively long, serious poem that discusses a noble subject in a thoughtful and dignified manner. John Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn shows all the characteristics composing a Horatorian ode, a consistent rhyme scheme (ABABCDE followed by a final CDE varying in order), the ode follows a definite meter of iambic pentameter and consists of five ten line stanzas. At first glance, the poem brings forth a light tone, one of wonder and amazement about the beauty of the Grecian urn. However, a deeper insight into structure and the more important literary devices reveals the underlying meanings of the ode arising from which are far more serious themes and issues. The first stanza of the poem depicts the artistic talent of the pictures painted upon the urn, as the speaker seems to peer into the side of the urn whilst standing before it. The last of lines of the Stanza consists of seven rhetorical questions, the speaker asks: ... What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? What pipes and trimbles? What wild ecstasy?(Line 9-10) The urn cannot respond to him, and his line of questioning is abandoned as he continues to peer into the side of the urn. One of the speakers principal points about the urn is that it is free from time, everlasting, never having to worry over death and aging. However with this the urn is suspended in time, unable to experience life because it is not life. The use of the rhetorical question highlights this, the urn is unable to return contact with the speaker, it is free from time, yet simultaneously frozen in it. The second stanza refers to a different picture that has been carved into the side of the urn. A young man seems to be playing a pipe to his lover as the sit together beneath a glade of trees. The speaker complements the piper in that his melodies are sweeter than a mortals: Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard are sweeter; therefore, ye pipes...

The symptoms increase as the cancer advances: from coughing to swelling of hands and face, fatigue and even paralysis. Diagnosis is done through CT scan, chest x-ray, sputum cytology, bronchoscopy, etc. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy play a major role in combating SCLC whereas; surgery plays little or no role. This is because in about 70% of the patients, the tumor has already spread to other organs ("Small-Cell," 2009). Moreover, the survival time is about two years in the extensive stage. Though, there are cases where early diagnosis of SCLC has benefitted from surgical removal of the tumor. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has many different types based on their histology; which makes up about 75% of all lung cancers.

Deborah Ellis Essay Deborah Ellis started writing at age 11-12 inspired at a young age she grasped her talent. As a kid she was constantly moving from place to place due to her fatherââ¬â¢s work, and used writing as a coping method. When she grew up, her work and writing was mainly done by traveling and talking to others that have problems and taking note of everything. She started to write the book I am currently the Breadwinner her first book. The Breadwinner takes place in Afghanistan and the main character at only 12 years old is faced with the discrimination against women when her father is arrested by the Taliban and with no other way of providing for her family she dresses up as a boy and tries to find work. Coincidentally Ellis traveled to Afghanistan in 1997 to interview women located in refugee camps. These interviews helped her write her four part series of The Breadwinner. Her writing of this book was inspired by an interview with a mother living in one of the refugee camps. Ellis has become considered of the most beloved young adult writers today as well as being a philanthropist who donates almost all of her profitââ¬â¢s from her books to organizations like ââ¬Å"UNICEFâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Women for Women in Afghanistanâ⬠. Deborah Ellis is a very motivated person who feels strongly for the rights of women and takes that inspiration and uses it to write compelling stories. Of all the books she has wrote which has come to 18 in total, all of them have been moving stories of injustices. Deborah Ellis has achieved international recognition with her incredibly dramatic books that give readers a glimpse into the life of children in far out developing countries. Ellis has won the Governor Generals Award, Swedens Peter Pan Prize, the Ruth Schwartz Award, the University of Californias Middle East Book Award, the Jane Addams Childrens Book Award and the Vicky Metcalf Award. The Harsh Treatment of Women in Afghanistan Since the tragedies of September 11th 2001, Americans have really opened their eyes to the political state of Afghanistan. The poor treatment of women in Afghanistan is an issue that, for many Americans, just seems to be coming to light as a serious concern that requires outside attention. Extreme Islamic leaders in the country persist in limiting the freedom that Afghan women have. Women in the Taliban-controlled country suffer unusually hideous acts of torment and are forced to abide by outrageous regulations because of stringent enforcement methods. Afghan women daily live lives restricted by Taliban law and risk having to endure cruel punishment and torture, yet Afghan political leaders continue to justify the their treatment of Afghan women. Ladies and gentleman good morning, today we will be debating about sex education. Sex education taught in the school system has long been debated as right or wrong. There are some who believe it is wholly wrong for the school to get involved in such a sensitive topic. They may believe this because they feel parents should do the talking or it may be down to religious reasons. First letââ¬â¢s define sex education so what is sex education. Sex education is instruction on issues relating to human sexuality, including human sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction, sexual activity, reproductive health, emotional relations, reproductive rights and responsibilities, abstinence, and birth control. Common avenues for sex education are parents or caregivers, formal school programs, and public health campaigns. The word sex, it is one of the few words that catch our attention. Whenever we see the word ââ¬Å"sexâ⬠in magazines, newspapers and other print materials, we tend to stop at some point and become interested to read the article where it is written. Itââ¬â¢s not because we simply feel the urge to read about sex but perhaps the ââ¬Å"questioning selfâ⬠wants to clarify and discover the truth about this matter. In liberal democracies, sex is viewed as a normal activity for both adults and teenagers. In the Philippines, itââ¬â¢s very different. Whenever we say the word ââ¬Å"sexâ⬠, we are labeled as ââ¬Å"rudeâ⬠. No wonder why if we heard of ââ¬Å"sexâ⬠we directly associate it to ââ¬Å"vulgarityâ⬠. We cannot blame ourselves because we are living in a society with a stronghold of moral standards and conservatism. As a representative of the opposition we strongly oppose the implementation of sex education to grade-schoolers. Those grade school pupil who have pure mind and still immature we cannot afford to change the way of thinking of these innocent grade school pupil. It is still early for them to learn about sex education. Teaching sex education to grade-schooler at early age can greatly affect their way of thinking. A person who is 7-11 years old is still immature, they have a imaginative mind and curious to different things specially one that they still havenââ¬â¢t tried, so introducing them about sex education is very risky. Thereââ¬â¢s no guarantee that the person teaching it has a healthy attitude about sex, or that the teacher really knows anymore about sex that the students do. Sex education brings the information to the front, possibly giving kids ideas of things that they had never thought of before. Instead of just letting things goes by and take their natural course, kids begin thinking about it. They begin to wonder what itââ¬â¢s like and may make poor choices that they never would have if they hadnââ¬â¢t heard about it in the first place. There is also a possibility that they do what couples because of curiosity and immaturity. For teens and young adult are in the transitional stage or the experimental years wherein they are curious about many things and they are very impulsive to try something new, they always seek their selves from other, teaching them how to use contraceptives is a big no, once they learn about birth control and safe sex. The chances for having unplanned teen pregnancies are possible for they are not yet matured to handle such stuff. Thereââ¬â¢s a tendency that they might have multiple partners. Students may still also suffer from embarrassment or get excitable by the topic matter. Student curiosity will be set high and their urge to try it will be greater. This will cause them to engage in early sex, sex Education program is not the answer to any sex related problems of young teens and minors that have been undergoing at the moment. the schools responsibility is to teach reading, math, science, social studies, etc. Instead of teaching them sex education program, school should concentrate more in moral values, that sex is responsibility, that once done, you must ready to face the consequences and any challenges in life. That sex is sacred itââ¬â¢s not just for fun and pleasure but, it should only be done by couples for procreation. There is a right time for everything, so just like the sex education there is right time to learn about it. Sex education can be compared to a knife ââ¬â it is useful to those who understand how to use it, but dangerous for those who do not. As parents, would you leave it to someone else to explain something potentially damaging to your children? If they will pursue with it, isnââ¬â¢t it awkward hearing kids say ââ¬Å"Hey mama, can you review me with this condom, pills etc.
